Essential Functions
- Creates a safe client environment by performing all required security and safety procedures
- Assists in the client's orientation of treatment goals, program rules and structure
- Submits a written incident report in the event of unusual client behavior or activity while in DCCCA's care
- Presents oral and written information on health-related topics and assists with staff development and training activities
- Advises clients of program resources and addresses medical, behavioral and nutritional client issues as appropriate
- Supports staff in the daily operation of the treatment unit and provides pertinent medical information to assist in the treatment decision-making process
- Submits treatment and reporting documentation required for program licensure, tracks information for funding sources and completes medical correspondence
- Monitors client medication, medical equipment and supplies per program policy and maintains accurate inventory
- Researches and develops applicable health/medical policies, procedures and systems
- Participates in select treatment group activities as requested
- Develops and administers health care policies and procedures including written policies for distribution of prescription and over-the-counter medications
- Provides direct medical care to clients or makes appropriate referrals to health care providers as outlined by policy and procedure guidelines
- Consults with treatment staff and other professionals as necessary to ensure program quality and optimum client care
- Serves as the primary liaison to other medical providers on behalf of each client
- Completes medical history documentation on clients within 24 hours of admittance
- Collects Urine Analysis' and maintains UA supplies
- Administers TB skin and other routine tests to staff
- Maintains accurate records of all medical information or documentation relevant to each client's treatment goals
- Monitors the effectiveness of medications and assures appropriate treatment regimens are being followed by staff
- Conducts routine physical examinations on new clients
- Participates in the development and implementation of individual reintegration and aftercare treatment plans
- Assists on-duty staff with crisis situations after hours as indicated by the program on-call rotation
- Provides transportation as necessary to meet established program achievement goals
Education, Experience, and Licensure
- Requires a minimum of 3 years related nursing experience
- Requires a detailed understanding of the treatment model utilized
- Requires licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse by the Kansas State Board of Nurses; Registered Nurse preferred
- Requires CPR, AIDS in-service hours and annual TB testing with a negative test result (residential programs only)
- Must possess a valid state Driver's License, in force automobile liability insurance, and maintain a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) that meets organization's insurability standard as defined by DCCCA policy. Availability of reliable transportation is required for this position
