Community Support/Traffic Safety Specialist

Full-Time Hays, KS

The Community Support Specialist provides consultation, technical assistance, and training services to community coalitions, in collaboration with the Kansas Department on Aging and Disability Services (KDADS), the Kansas Prevention Partnership Network (KPPN), and other statewide prevention contractors. The Traffic Safety Specialist cooperates with NHTSA, KDOT, law enforcement and other statewide partners to promote traffic safety programs in the state of Kansas.

Position Overview:

  • Liaisons with community coalitions statewide, either in person or virtually, to assess training and technical assistance needs
  • Monitors community coalition training and technical assistance plans and logic models; provides or facilitates the acquisition of subject matter expertise to support coalitions in achieving goals and objectives
  • Assists with program development, implementation and evaluation as necessary to meet funding requirements
  • Assists with subject matter content during the development of eLearning modules; helps create and promote social media and other virtual learning communities to connect coalitions
  • Schedules, plans, markets and leads educational and training events for traffic safety education and other traffic safety programs as assigned 

  • Promotes KDOT & NHTSA messaging initiatives
  • Provides content for newsletters, social media and websites 
  • Engages with employers to market traffic safety presentations and messaging
  • Schedules, plans, and promotes Older Driver programs and Defensive Driving Presentations
  • Assists with child passenger safety education and programs
  • Represents the agency at designated local, regional and state events/meetings as requested

  • Collaborates with local law enforcement, health agencies and other safety partners
  • Documents required activities and prepares monthly narrative reports on grant activities and accomplishments and submits other reports as requested
  • Submits all required reports and documentation on time 
Requirements Include:

  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent, a bachelor's degree is preferred
  • Requires college hours in a human service, teaching, social work or other related field
  • Community organization and facilitation experience
  • Able to interact with diverse groups
  • Requires a minimum of one year of related experience in community based training or with a not for profit organization
  • Must become certified as a Child Passenger Safety Technician within six months of assuming this role
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record 

  • Must pass pre-employment background checks and drug screening
